Is delaying gratification a form of self-control or self-deprivation?
No one told me that adulting could be so draining, motivating, exciting, and full of surprises all at once. As a young professional navigating the chaotic battlefield of adult life, money is one of the greatest factors in my decisions. I often find myself hesitating over simple purchases, like my favorite morning coffee or a new pair of sneakers, convinced that waiting will help me save more. Yet, despite my best intentions, I often don’t save anything at all. There's a thin line between spending wisely and spending unnecessarily.
According to research, budgeting wisely involves following the 50-30-20 rule: 50% for essential needs, 30% for wants, and 20% for savings. In theory, it’s a great way to achieve work-life balance. But remember, treating yourself occasionally can boost motivation and encourage you to strive for more. You have plenty of time to figure everything out, save, invest, and become the person you aspire to be. For now, embrace the present! Buy that bag, go to the gym, and be a little weird.
And remember, you can indulge in the things you once deprived yourself of, and be proud of your progress!
